I read in the Vancouver Sun, yesterday, that the Hollywood Theatre, built and operated by the Fairleigh family since 1935, closes tomorrow. The article noted that Vince Fairleigh chose Cinema Paradiso as the feature presentation for the final weekend. What an inspired and moving selection. I decided to go and pay my respects by taking a few photos and saying thank you to Vince. 76 years of entertainment shared with countless people in Vancouver. Vince should be very proud, what an amazing achievement and example of commitment, passion and creativity. Here are the four photos I took today. The first is a shot from the southern side of Broadway, looking across at the Hollywood Theatre. The second is of the Hollywood Theatre signage. The third is a portrait of Vince Fairleigh selling a ticket on the final weekend. The fourth has been stylized, it was photographed today, but stylized attempts to reflect the magic and creativity of Independent cinema.
